Stanfords is the world’s biggest retailer of maps and travel books – an iconic destination store for the start of every adventure. In early 2019 the flagship store on Long Acre, Covent Garden, relocated to its new home on Mercers Walk. Lily Pad PR was initially brought on board to manage press around the move, as well as devising a future PR strategy to maximise awareness. The resulting campaign delivered extensive coverage in the FT, Telegraph, The Times, Daily Express, Independent, Guardian, BBC Radio 4, Lonely Planet, BBC TV World, BBC Broadcasting House, BBC Inside Out, i travel, Sunday Times Travel, Forbes, Time Out, Londonist, Evening Standard, Metro, as well as trade titles across publishing, property and retail.
The increased awareness of the brand provided a platform to launch an archival exhibition a few months later, where we showcased items uncovered in the move including letters from Florence Nightingale and items from current explorers including Michael Palin and Levison Wood.
Lily Pad PR has also managed press for the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards for the last two years, including ensuring the right press turn up on the night, as well as pre-selling in winning authors for coverage post the event.
